Christ's Example

Camp is nearly over and there are several events (some with pictures) that you'll read about later. Check out Kim's blog in the next couple of days.

Our theme for the week was "Be an Example" and I've really enjoyed it. Tonight, we learned more in detail Christ's example. It's ironic that the media shows the example of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, or Anna Nicole Smith with little criticism. We need to hear more of Christ's example. Why? Because he was the perfect example.

1st Peter 2:21-25 says "For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls." (ESV)

How was he a perfect example? First, He didn't sin. He was perfect and pure. Secondly, He controlled his words. While He suffered on the cross and was humiliated, He did nothing back. For us, our instict tells us to get even. Not with Christ! The best part of His example is that we are healed because of His death on the cross. Isn't that amazing?

Let's strive to be like Christ.

whyuwhymJesus had to stay focused on the joy set before him (Heb. 12:2). The persecution was not joyful. THe lies, the smacks, the thorns, the stripes -- they hurt. The rejection hurt. Yet, the big picture was bright.

Sadly, when we are hurt, we look at the hurt, and not the big picture. We can be like Jesus when we make the big picture our life (Col. 3:1-4).

Whenever my 8 year old hits his sisters, he gets to write out the scriptures. The message will get in his head somehow.

Great thoughts on the blog -- thanks!
