Why Christian Parenting? (Bible)

What does being a Christian have to do with being a parent? Everything. I've been teaching a young adult class at church and we are currently studying this topic. We've been using Glenn Colley's book called "Your Mama Don't Dance." We've learned that Christian parents should be the biggest influence in everything of a child's life. Wow, what a concept!

I'm afraid that many parents today are not raising their children. Instead, either the T.V., movies, or friends are. Let me remind you of what Proverbs 13:4 says: "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him." (NASB) Parents must have an active role in disciplining a child, otherwise it is a form of hatred! The best way to show love to a child is to discipline him or her.

  1. Great post, Paul! I'm looking forward to your blog. Maybe I can glean some experiential insight from you and even more from the Bible before I have kids of my own someday. Welcome to the blogworld.

  2. Great post Paul! I look forward to reading more. We need to be reminded about our responsibilities as Christian parents. People expect the church to train their child and teach them about the Bible but this should start in the home. Parents need to be teaching their children what the Bible says and how one should live as a Christian. I see you are using brother Glen Colley's book. He writes some great material. Both he and his dad have held meetings for us in Piedmont. I am thinking about using his new book for a teen class.
