Dimes

As some of my blog readers know, my grandmother passed away back October 10, 2005 It's been nearly a year. I spoke at the funeral with my own tribute.

Anyway, Mom told me at Spring Break in March that she noticed an eerie coincidence. A few days before her death, everyone knew it was coming but didn't know when. Perhaps she would pass when my three uncles and mom were all together with her one last time. It seemed like she was holding on.

Mom said she kept finding dimes. She found a bunch of dimes when she did some laundry. She received some dimes back when getting a snack at a vending machine. She noticed a dime on a table as she ate with her brothers. What did this mean? Someone jokingly suggested that it was Grandpa (who died in 1999) telling them to "be careful with the money." Grandpa was always good with money.

At this point, they were all wondering when Grandma would pass. They knew it would happen soon, and I think that the some of my uncles were going to have to head back home. Anyway, the thought came up that maybe the dime meant the number 10. Grandma died on October 10th.
Okay, that's a nice coincidence. But, the story doesn't end there.

Mom had to pack up all of Grandma's clothing. I think she took it to Goodwill. Anyway, she and Dad loaded up their car to take care of the clothes. After the last box was unloaded, one thing remained sitting in the trunk. A dime. Mom was sure that it wasn't there before. Eerie, isn't it?

After I heard this story, it gave me the chills. But, it doesn't end their either. After Mom told us that story at Spring Break, we flew home and unpacked. Kim tells me that after she cleaned out the suitcases, all the remained was a dime.

Does this mean that I believe my grandmother is "haunting" us from the dead? No, but I definately notice dimes more and immediately think of Grandma. I noticed one the other day when we went to the hosptial for Hannah's birth. As I entered the waiting room, there sat a lonely dime on a table.

Oh, and what did I find under my desk at school on Friday? Another dime.
